My name is Katarina Farley, and I am a senior Fashion Design student at the Academy of Art University in my final semester. I grew up in the Rocky Mountains- Taos, New Mexico. I learned to ski when I was three years old, and was an alpine ski racer for 16 years- which lead me to such places as Austria and Germany for training. I was also a competitive gymnast- starting at a very young age allowed me to develop mental and physical strength, self-discipline, and motivation.

In my designs I pay close attention to details such as stitch techniques, and enjoy experimenting with handcrafted elements such as dip-dyeing. I also enjoy playing with unusual cutting techniques. Innovative fabrication, and different washes for a soft hand is important to convey luxury. I also enjoy playing with texture: needle felting wool onto silk, hand beading, fur accents, leather treatments, and layering sheer fabrics. I am attracted to neutral colors; and like to mix in bright colors, or prints.

I started blogging for a course for school. Blogging became a great way to express myself, create contacts, and get inspired. Aside from my personal blog, I am a contributing writer for my school’s fashion blog, Fashion School Daily; as well as a creative community for fashion.
